Canada-Ontario Immigration Agreement good for rural and northern Ontario

Date: November 30, 2017

Those who have been following ROI blog posts, our recent Newcomer Integration Case Studies publication or our migration Fact Sheets will know that we have been drawing attention to the challenges many rural communities have faced in attracting newcomers and particularly immigrants.

We think it is very important that the recently announced Canada-Ontario immigration agreement identifies the goal of dispersing settlement to more rural and northern areas and we welcome this policy development as good news for rural and northern stakeholders.

Noteworthy is Item D) in the preamble that says that Canada and Ontario have a mutual interest in: “working together to build a culturally diverse, integrated, inclusive, socially cohesive society and to encourage immigration throughout the province of Ontario including small, rural and northern communities”
