Applications now open for the 2026 Rural Change Maker Program

Now accepting applications for the 2026 Rural Change Makers Program
GUELPH, ON, April 1, 2026 – The Rural Ontario Institute (ROI) is pleased to announce the opening of recruitment for the 2026 Rural Change Makers (RCM) program with the support of regional partners: Opiikapawiin Services LP (OSLP) - representing a collective of 24 First Nations from Northwestern Ontario, Community Futures Huron, TRENVAL Business Development Corporation, Four County Labour Market Planning Board, Metis Nation of Ontario Women's Council, Town of Hanover and the People’s Archive of Ontario. The Rural Change Maker Program welcomes applications from motivated young leaders aged 18-35 in rural and northern Ontario eager to lead meaningful change in their lives, communities and futures. The deadline for applications is July 1, 2026.
“Over 80 graduates to date are building meaningful outcomes in more than 60 rural regions in Ontario. They are advancing their careers, investing in energy equity, and deepening our understanding of important societal realities. Many are building life stability and businesses, leading community initiatives, organizations and holding leadership roles in municipalities and First Nations. Young leaders are critical to the future of rural Ontario,” said Kimberly Earls, ROI Executive Director.
