Classified Listings

The average rent for a municipality are calculated from rental listings on classified websites for available units. Detailed averages are calculated by unit size (1 bedroom, 2 bedrooms, 3+ bedrooms), and dwelling type.

The number of listings used for each calculation are provided, for reference.

Statistics Canada, Building Permits Survey

The monthly Building Permits Survey collects data on the value of permits issued by Canadian municipalities for both residential and non-residential buildings, and the number of residential dwellings authorized. The survey is administered as part of the Integrated Business Statistics Program (IBSP).

 

Data is obtained for the number of permits issued for new residential construction, and the number of new dwelling units. Data is broken down by structural type of dwelling (single detached, semi-detached, row, apartment, condominium, cottage, mobile home, other).

Municipalities All participating municipalities fill out a survey in regards to affordable housing data supply, housing corporation, and geospatial zoning and servicing data. The RHIS centralizes this information into one resource. Annually
Census Census profile data points are obtained from 2011, 2016 and 2021 at the census subdivision level and census division level. Census Release every 5 years
Analyst Analyst is an online tool of the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. Analyst sources jobs and wages data from the Survey of Employment, Payroll, and Hours, and the Census. Data regarding jobs by industry and average wages are obtained from Analyst.
