Guest Blog: Engaging Newcomers an Important Way to Address Rural Labour Force Skills Gaps
Date: March 1, 2018
"It is vitally important that Rural Ontario develops a plan on growing and retaining a labour force that supports economic growth. To this end, engaging newcomers will be one way we can do this. There are a great many initiatives being undertake across Bruce, Grey, Huron and Perth counties to ensure we get it right," says Gemma Mendez-Smith, Executive Director of the Four County Labour Market Planning Board.
Gemma, along with: Charles Cirtwell, President and CEO, Northern Policy Institute; Christian Provenzano, Mayor of Sault Ste. Marie; and Wayne Caldwell, Professor, School of Environmental Design and Rural Development, University of Guelph, spoke with TVO's Steve Paikin for an episode of The Agenda, entitled: A Northern and Rural Appeal to Newcomers.
